What we do in Decatur

Decatur

Decatur embodies the essence of a quintessential Southern town while embracing the vibrancy of a diverse urban center. Nestled just east of Atlanta, Decatur stands as a beacon of community spirit, historic charm, and progressive values.

Founded in 1823, it has a rich history that can be felt in its tree-lined streets and historic architecture. Named after Stephen Decatur, a naval hero of the War of 1812, the city evolved from a small trading post to a bustling hub for commerce and culture. Today, remnants of its past are evident in the well-preserved Victorian homes, antebellum estates, and quaint downtown square.

At the heart of Decatur lies its vibrant downtown area, a bustling epicenter of activity and culture. The Square serves as a gathering place for residents and visitors alike, offering an array of eclectic shops, award-winning restaurants, and art galleries. From farm-to-table eateries to trendy boutiques, the downtown district exudes an atmosphere that is both hip and historic.

One of the most beloved features of Decatur is its thriving culinary scene. With a focus on locally-sourced ingredients and innovative cuisine, the city has garnered acclaim as a foodie destination. Visitors can explore a diverse array of dining options, from Southern comfort food joints to international bistros. The annual Decatur BBQ, Blues & Bluegrass Festival celebrates the city’s culinary heritage with mouthwatering barbecue, soulful blues music, and a sense of community camaraderie.

In addition to its culinary delights, Decatur is also known for its commitment to the arts. The city boasts a dynamic arts scene, with numerous galleries, theaters, and performance venues scattered throughout its streets. From live music at Eddie’s Attic, a renowned acoustic music club that has hosted legendary acts such as John Mayer and the Indigo Girls, to the vibrant street art adorning buildings throughout the city, Decatur pulsates with creative energy.

Beyond its cultural offerings, Decatur takes pride in its strong sense of community and inclusivity. The city is home to a diverse population, with residents hailing from all walks of life and cultural backgrounds. This diversity is celebrated through events such as the Decatur Arts Festival and the Decatur Book Festival, which showcase the talents of artists, authors, and performers from around the world.

Decatur’s commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship sets it apart as a forward-thinking community. The city has implemented numerous initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint and promote eco-friendly practices, including bike lanes, public transportation options, and green spaces. Residents can often be found enjoying the outdoors at one of Decatur’s many parks, such as Glenlake Park or Dearborn Park, which offer walking trails, playgrounds, and picnic areas.

Education is another cornerstone of Decatur’s identity, with top-rated schools that attract families from across the metro Atlanta area. The city’s public school system is known for its academic excellence and innovative approach to education, while its proximity to prestigious universities such as Emory University and Georgia Tech provides ample opportunities for lifelong learning and intellectual growth.

In recent years, Decatur has experienced a surge in growth and development, attracting new businesses, restaurants, and residents while maintaining its small-town charm and sense of community. As the city continues to evolve, it remains dedicated to preserving its rich history, fostering creativity and innovation, and creating a welcoming environment for all who call it home.

More than just a suburb of Atlanta; it is a vibrant and dynamic city with a rich cultural heritage, a strong sense of community, and a commitment to progress and sustainability. Whether you’re exploring its historic downtown, savoring its culinary delights, or immersing yourself in its thriving arts scene, it offers something for everyone to enjoy.

If you’re a history buff or a fan of the silver screen, there’s a good chance that you’ve seen or heard of Decatur. The town was a significant site in the American Civil War. It is also the cinematic setting for dozens of television shows and movies, including Zombieland, The Haunting of Hill House, and Scream II. Many scenes were filmed in the iconic town square! It ranks number #2 on 2021 USA TODAY’s 10 Best Readers’ Choice travel awards for Best Public Square.

When the town isn’t making history, visitors and locals alike can be found exploring the museums and walking trails, and dining in some of the county’s finest restaurants. Be sure to take a careful look around when you walk, as there are new art installations, secret doors, and murals popping up every day! Plus, we’re just east of the Atlanta Beltline and six miles from downtown Atlanta.

Why should I get Inspected?

You’re going to want a chimney inspection to protect your home, wallet and peace of mind. Being proactive and scheduling an annual check-up for your chimney and fireplace will save you money in the long run.

Schedule Online

It’s quick and easy to set up a chimney or fireplace inspection. Send us an email or fill out our online form and we will get back with you to find the best time for your appointment.

Prevent Chronic Issues and Costly Repairs

If excessive water falls into your chimney, it can get into the chimney flue or the chimney liner, which will cause rapid deterioration. Debris and animals are also a major concern that impact your chimney. Just as your gutters collect debris and water, your chimney does that same; and it only takes a small amount of debris and a heated chimney to create a fire hazard.

Chimney Cleanings

Keep your chimney safe and functioning correctly; schedule your appointment in time for winter!

Chimney Installs

Get started by determining what type of chimney and fireplace you have in your home

Masonry Chimneys & Fireplaces

Masonry Chimney and Fireplaces are part of a home’s structural design and are built as the house is built. Masonry fireplaces burn wood logs and a concrete foundation is necessary for a fireplace. There are specific requirements when building the home that dictate various aspects of the unit.

Pre-Fab Chimneys & Fireplaces

Pre-fabricated Chimney and Fireplaces are built in such a way that they can typically be installed just inches away from combustible materials.  Most are constructed of metal and have glass doors, insulated walls, air-cooled pipes, and blowers which can move the heat produced by the fire into the room.
